The review must be at least 50 characters long. But I think the real power in it is the saving of heartlesd delightful Anna from her horrid former life, and the redeeming of Luke himself. It is one of the best book I liked to read baogh was written by Mary Balogh. Most everyone heratless seems to really like her books so I’ll have to try, but, sheesh, not this one. Mray lied to the hero telling him there was nothing wrong until the end and he didn’t find out what was happening to the heroine until the last chapter, which was way too late IMO. Balogh lets you inside the character’s heads, and I can see why Anna is unable to share her past, much as part of her wants to.
Although mine’s a little worn now, and I’ve had to place clear plastic ‘contact’ over the lacy bit to protect it. The whole thing about him coercing Anna into helping him with his cheating and stealing was kind of preposterous, and the sexual element was squicky and seemed rooted not in any sort of psychologically realistic motivation, but in Balogh needing to have her hymen-less heroine still be technically untouched by any man.
